5 Journaling Secrets to Thrive as a New Mom

For the readers

I’m a writer, book lover, journal advocate, and mother.

My heart grows three sizes when I see a comment like this from my readers: “This essay made me cry and laugh at the same time!” I take my job pretty seriously—to write about ordinary life to inspire important conversations.

When I can process my own everyday moments in life and connect with readers like you who can relate, it’s a win-win.

When I’m not writing, you can find me reading essay collections, chasing my tractor-obsessed toddler, listening to podcasts with one earbud (forever RIP to that left earbud that’s under the couch or in the wash…IYKYK), or making dinner for my family in our stone country house down a windy wooded lane (cue the Hallmark movie).

for the writers

I know how you feel: it’s scary to call yourself a writer and business owner.

In 2018, after many years of dreaming and doubting, I finally took the leap and launched my business as a full-time professional writer. I have exceeded my income from my days working a 9-to-5 job, even while managing a high-risk pregnancy and taking a six-month maternity leave to start my family. Now I help new moms use the power of journaling to find confidence in motherhood.

I’ve written essays for award-winning publications that have gone viral, bringing in hundreds of thousands of page views from readers across the globe.

With 15 years of experience under my belt, I’m known for my strategic storytelling and attention to detail. I’ve worked with marketing agencies and nonprofits to write grants, proposals, blogs, social media content, web copy, newsletters, direct mail, email campaigns, press releases, curriculum, and beyond.

for a laugh

Even my grandma will tell you I’ve always been a writer.

In fifth grade, my elementary school cut bagels from our daily breakfast menu. They insisted little kids couldn’t handle plastic knives to spread the cream cheese. Me? I was a bagel enthusiast at a young age—I took a stand. I wrote a letter to our principal to revoke the decision for the big kids, unlocking my passion for using words to make a difference and inspire change. (Long live bagels and cream cheese.)
